Daughter of a CBS network news journalist, Wynne Benti spent her childhood in Los Angeles, New York City and Copenhagen. Summers were spent on family farms in Indiana or at the family summer home on Fire Island. She graduated from UC Davis (BA, Fine Art Studio) and Art Center College of Design (BFA, Graphics Packaging). She studied printmaking, painting and photography with Roland Peterson, Wayne Thiebaud, Roy DeForest and Harvey Himelfarb.
