Welcome to Wynne Benti|Coons Gallery.
I studied painting, etching and drawing at the University of California Davis with Wayne Thiebaud, Roy DeForest, Roland Peterson, with an emphasis in photography with Harvey Himelfarb. One of my large scale mixed media photographs (48″x60″) won best of show sponsored by Niello Porsche Audi and the Sacramento Art Director’s Club.

After spending three years in Sacramento designing news graphics, I attended Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, then went to work for American Institute of Graphic Artists Lifetime Achievement designée Keith Bright on the branding of Holland America. Working with a team of designers headed by Larry Klein, we designed and implemented the theme, utility and safety signage on two new ocean liners. My design portfolio can be viewed at www.wynnebenti.com

In 1995, I published Favorite Dog Hikes In and Around Los Angeles, and started Spotted Dog Press. Spotted Dog Press has published books by Ansel Adams, Galen Rowell, Ruth Dyar Mendenhall, ecologist David Gilligan and hydrologist Andy Zdon.

Over a decade ago, I was minding my own publishing business in a back room while my husband Richard Coons managed his gallery. He loved this gallery and his art. He was a dedicated artist who created his visual interpretation of the Sierra Nevada and California using the medium of oil paint. In 2003, he lost his battle with cancer. I have kept the gallery open while also running my press, and writing articles. If you pass by the gallery and it is closed, know that I am out and about, sketching a sagebrush or writing a story.
